The 2003 We the People Summer Institute addressed questions related to strengthening democracy, including constitutional issues and policy debates on balancing individual liberties and national security in the 21st Century. Legal scholars and policy makers provided participants with content and teaching strategies for helping the next generation of Americans preserve and strengthen democratic principles.

Over 30 teachers participated in We the People simulated Congressional hearings on the topic of liberty and security held in the House hearing rooms at the State Capitol on June 13, 2003.

A program highlight of this summer's We the People Institute was a special presentation on the topic of liberty and security provided by General Alexander Hamilton on June 12. For more information about Professor Hal Bidlack's first person interpretation performances, visit Hamiltonlives.com
